Advanced intuitive control of operating theatres

For over two decades theatre control panels (TCPs) have been widely adopted for use within hospital operating theatres and critical care areas to help surgeons monitor clocks, power, essential technologies, and combine controls through a single interface panel.

During this time TCPs have advanced, from the original stainless steel designed panel, to the inclusion of membrane push buttons, and now they incorporate more advanced features and glass facias.

Nowadays, touch-screen technology is so widespread in its use and application, that it is an obvious move for glass to be incorporated into the design enhancement of the conventional theatre or surgeon’s control panels.

Bender CP9 glass touch theatre control technology

The COMTRAXX® CP9 is a series of unique control panels designed by Bender to monitor critical operating systems within Group 1 and 2 medical locations, to provide overall control and alarms of connected power and OR systems.

Improving both functionality and aesthetics, this innovative glass touch theatre control solution delivers a more modern and sleek method of managing the operating theatre environment and brings many advantages and benefits for hospitals, engineers and end-users.

Minimal disruption and downtime

During surgery, clinical teams depend on the performance of vital medical electrical equipment - so they can focus on the patient and surgical area or operation. In the event of a power system fault or electrical failure, audio and visual alarms transmit, warning estates teams of issues with infrastructure connected to the theatre - so it can be dealt with immediately.

A well-designed product for ease of use

A major advantage for users is that it is far more intuitive and user friendly for hospital staff. This means with frequent clinical team changes, minimal training is required to use and operate the control panel.

Glass touch control is future proof and visually more pleasing. Slimline in design it can be flush mount within walls and easily cleaned. The superior anti-reflective, anti-glare glass provides clearer visibility of images, clocks, readings, and control functions.

Connected systems such as lighting, temperature and humidity, ventilation, and other critical alarms controls are incorporated with human machine interface (HMI) and programmable logic controller for straightforward integration.

Easy maintenance and remote access

Communication from the panel means estates teams receive information and alerts without having to enter the operating room. Hospital engineering and maintenance can be conducted remotely without entering the theatre, eliminating the need to shut down and enter the operation room.

As the CP9 incorporates a separate remote interface box, this reduces required cabling within the theatre and can be updated, viewed and monitored outside of the operating theatre. In addition, the cost savings for maintenance can be significant as it minimises the need for theatre shut-down and out-of-hours engineer’s access.

Simple operation of surgical lights

When synced, the control panel offers complete operation of Merivaara Q-Flow surgical lights and connected HD cameras. Light features such as on/off function and brightness can easily be controlled from the CP9. This enables the surgeon to focus on the operating area allowing clinical teams to adjust the light brightness and setting preferences as required.

Advancing the operating room and beyond

This modernised CP9 glass theatre control panel has advanced surgical practices in leading private and NHS hospitals and is improving patient outcomes. In addition to operating theatres it can be used in other areas such as ICU/HDU/CCU where medical electrical equipment is connected to a patient.

Bender CP9 technology supports the work of estates teams and aids nursing staff with clear concise, control, monitoring and alarm functionality. It transforms the entire look and feel of the operating room and helps keep patients and staff safe every day.
